Equipment Operator – POSITION SUMMARY
An Equipment Operator reports to the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent and is responsible for the general care and maintenance of the golf course, inclusive of all turf mowing and daily set-up and service to the courses.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- High School diploma preferred but not required.
- 1-2 years experience operating tractors, large mowers or earth moving equipment. Golf course maintenance experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions in work activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a positive and helpful manner with staff, coworkers, guests and customers, visitors, and management in all aspects of the job.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate all turf mowing equipment for grooming of turf area such as greens, collars, approaches, tees, fairways, roughs, clubhouse and all common grounds areas as defined throughout the property.
- Repair ball marks on greens and fill divots in fairways and tee tops.
- Change cups, rotate tee markers and service all course accessories.
- Rake and maintain sand in bunker floors.
- Edge bunkers, cart paths and curbs throughout golf course and parking lot.
- Edge and groom around irrigation sprinklers, value boxes and yardage markers.
- Topdress, verti-groom and verti-cut greens.
- Continually monitor and remove loose debris and trash throughout the course.
- Rotate course signage such as cart directional signs, ropes and stakes for cart traffic control.
- Trim trees, groom native plants and hedges and change out flower beds throughout the courses.
- Assist with course improvement projects such as drainage, sodding, seeding, and tree planting.
- Aerate all turf areas.
- Comply at all times with Palmer golf’s safety standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
- Complete all designated work assignments pertaining to course maintenance as directed by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Requires constant (70%-100%) walking, standing, stooping, grasping, reaching and kneeling.
- Requires ability to perform a variety of manual labor tasks that will require some strenuous physical efforts such as lifting objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
- Requires ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of time while remaining physically active.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires ability to convey information and ideas clearly.
- Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
- Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to extreme heat/humidity, cold weather, and turf elements.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT: Mowers, hand & power tools, pesticide sprayers, chemicals and fertilizer applicators, aerifiers, ditchwitches, backhoe, front-end loaders, and telephone.
Salary Range: $9.00 to $11.00/hour depending on experience
